IBM Storage Defender is IBM's new "Data Resilience" solution. Its goal is to make companies resilient to cyber-attacks. This involves a strategic partnership between IBM and Cohesity.
Centrally, the cloud application (SaaS component) IBM Storage Defender Data Management Service is available in Storage Defender as a Single Point of Control. In this way, the various available and future modules of IBM Storage Defender can be accessed easily (SIMPLICITY) via this portal.
IBM Storage Defender Data Management Service
In the initial step, this cloud portal IBM Storage Defender Data Management Service is available and serves for the central management (AUTOMATION) of a heterogeneous data protection landscape. Two products are currently supported here (PROTECT & RECOVERY). On the one hand this is IBM Storage Protect and on the other hand IBM Storage Defender Data Protect, which is integrated by Cohesity. In the future, other products from other manufacturers can also be managed via the Data Management Service.
The portal allows the user to get a quick overview of the entire backup infrastructure via the dashboard. Functionalities such as logging, reporting or simulations can also be handled via this portal.
IBM Storage Defender Data Protect
The IBM Storage Defender Data Protect component consists of a multi-node cluster that can be deployed either on-premise on physical machines, on virtual machines or in the cloud. When defining the cluster, cluster resilience and fault tolerance can be selected according to the requirements for the system. Platforms from various hardware manufacturers can also be used to install the software on physical machines.
Data Protect supports cloud tiering, cloud archiving and replication between different Data Protect clusters.
IBM Storage Protect
The IBM Storage Protect component can be used with all available IBM Storage Protect Data Protection modules. Furthermore, the Storage Protect server also acts like an S3 interface for IBM Storage Defender Data Protect.
With the IBM Storage Protect Suite and IBM Storage Defender Data Protect products, broad support for different platforms is available for backups:
Cyber Resilience with IBM Storage Sentinel
Another core element in IBM Storage Defender will be thread detection (DISCOVERY). Among other things, the IBM Storage Sentinel product will be used here as a cyber resilience solution.
In the future, other products will be integrated into Storage Defender to improve the security of the environment.
IBM Storage Virtualize and IBM Storage Archive
Several layers of protection (SECURE) are used in IBM Storage Defender, including immutable copies. The goal is to have cleaner copies of the data that can be trusted. For this purpose, IBM Storage Defender uses components like IBM Storage Virtualize or IBM Storage Archive as LTFS solution.
