IBM released IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Release 10.1.11 last week. This release contains various security fixes that address gaps that allow attackers to gain more advanced privileges or access.

What you should consider when updating IBM ISP Plus to release 10.1.11

Virtual servers must be migrated to a new virtual application.

 

Physical systems must also be migrated to RHEL 8. An appropriate license from Redhat may be required eventually.

 

The vSnap storage can be exported on the system and reconnected to the new application.

New functionalities in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Release 10.1.11

Besides the announcement to End Of Life of CentOS and RHEL 7, the following new functionalities come with the new Spectrum Protect Plus release:

  • Security Enhancements: validation of Self-Signed TLS certificates of vSnap servers by Spectrum Protect Plus during registration. For existing configurations, validation is performed during migration on a trust-on-first-use basis.
  • Enhancements for MS SQL log backups: Log backups can be defined as SPP job.

  • Spectrum Protect Plus BaaS Agent Support for Openshift Cluster for Linux Z.

Important to note

  • With the 10.1.11 release, CentOS and RHEL 7 operating systems are no longer supported for Spectrum Protect Plus Server and vSnap Server.
  • The systems must be migrated to RHEL 8. In-place migration is not possible.
