In order to offer our customers, the best possible service in the future, we have modernized our Empalis test lab. All Empalis employees can use the lab for customer projects and studies. For this purpose, a computer center in Heilbronn provides us with additional, energetic support.
More efficient through mutual synergy effects
In the Heilbronn data center operator, we have found a reliable partner for setups and test setups of all kinds. The mutual synergy effects with our partner enable us to react quickly and flexibly to expansions and test series.
Intelligent architecture for best practice test procedures and feasibility studies
The technical basis of Empalis' lab environment consists of a 10Gbit network and SAN components for various test procedures. Our multiple ESXi host systems, coupled with VMware vSphere - which includes HA and DRS - allow us to map various backup disaster recovery scenarios.
As main storage we have an IBM V7000 Storwize, which provides us with block and GPFS for high availability configurations. In addition, there are several individual servers with RHEL and Microsoft Hyper-V installations to expand the spectrum and possible test scenarios.
Other features of the new lab environment
- Also, as part of the new concept, we have standardized the network components used. Since only two types of equipment are now used, maintenance and future expansion of the data center has been greatly simplified and, thanks to an improved structure in the hardware, has become clearer.
- By consolidating the previous laboratory environment with the modern expansion using hardware and network components, we have also succeeded in operating more energy-efficient hardware.
- A Sophos UTM is available to ensure access protection of the network for VPN and firewall.
- The LAN infrastructure was adapted so that currently running test and infrastructure servers could be transferred from the previous NetApp storage to the current V7000 Storwize without any problems.
Modern architectures and service concepts
At the beginning of the project, different deployment concepts, such as existing IT infrastructure, network, physical space in the racks, licensing, were checked for their suitability for the task. In the consideration dialog, in which different departments within Empalis participated, all employees were able to contribute their ideas, wishes and needs. This brainstorming resulted in a diverse, modern laboratory environment. Thanks to the new network concept and design, we will in future also have the option of choosing a new placement for the components, thus making optimum use of the existing rack space.
A clear advantage for our customers
Empalis regularly participates in beta testing of new product versions with our partners. This is only possible with an appropriately prepared laboratory environment. Any bugs are thus filtered out by us before delivery to customers and reported back to the manufacturer. This benefits the customer in the long term. You can offer customers a modern architecture or service concepts when your own employees can test and are familiar with the new technologies.
