Yesterday, the readiness of the first Veeam version was confirmed and announced that, for the first time, operates entirely without Windows components – true enterprise backup, now natively running on Linux!
Veeam V13: Fully on Linux, Maximum Security and Flexibility
After previous versions already provided hardened repositories and proxies under Linux, Veeam version 13 now completes the step to Linux-only operation: The solution now runs as a hardened Linux appliance based on Rocky Linux. Components such as the Mount Server, Gateway Server, and Guest Interaction Proxy now support Linux natively, meaning a Veeam environment can be set up entirely without Microsoft operating systems.
Even IT teams without deep Linux know-how can manage the installation – the appliance comes with a preconfigured "Just Enough Operating System" (JeOS) and a lean web interface. As a result, Veeam not only reduces costs but also eliminates common attack vectors associated with Windows systems.
Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): More Control, Less Risk
Particularly noteworthy is the new, significantly expanded role-based authorization model. With fine-grained permissions, it's possible to control exactly which user or admin gets access to specific backup, restore, or monitoring functions.
