Who is the workshop for

The course is for employees who are responsible for the installation and operation of DFSMSrmm (a component of z/OS DFSMS). Would you like to optimize the processes in your day-to-day work and work faster and more securely?  Then you should take part in this course.

What you will learn in the IBM DFSMSrmm V3.1 workshop

In this 4-day workshop, you will learn how to implement the new features for the Removable Media Manager (DFSMSrmm), a functional component of DFSMS and an optional feature of z/OS. We will talk about tape security and the implementation of some very powerful new features.

Latest features in the version 3.1:

  • New features in Defaults Table: How to replace your EDGUX100 exit file and benefit from noticeable time savings in processes as well as more security.
  • Tape Security: How to implement tape security securely and without risk.
  • Catalogue Synchronization: How to significantly improve the speed of daily administration runs.
  • Converting to the new retention method EXPDT

Requirements for participation

 

As a participant in this course, you should have basic knowledge of MVS allocation and sequential processing as taught in Storage Management Fundamentals. You should also be able to use MVS job control language (JCL) statements for tape datasets and be familiar with IBM utilities.

  • Implementation of SAF tape security
  • Using newly available utilities for DFSMSrmm
  • Reorganization of the DFSMSrmm Control Data Set
  • Splitting the flow processing
  • Correct use of PRTITION and OPENRULE statements instead of REJECT definitions
  • Splitting and merging a DFSMSrmm control data set
